WOODWARD DIRECT Public Relations and Direct/Word Marketing

After spending several years in public relations with a Manhattan agency whose work ethic mandated accuracy and truth, I branched out to write feature articles for Town & Country Magazine and a newspaper syndicate. Only then did I learn that what one reads in the daily press is not necessarily accurate or true.

The date line of my very first article indicated that it was sent from London. I wrote it in New York. When I phoned a newspaper to ask for a tear sheet of my interview with Ingrid Bergman, the editor said, “Naturally, you made up her quote at the end”. “Naturally, I didn’t,” I replied.

Putting words into anyone’s mouth is unacceptable. It destroys trust. Imagination is a must in PR campaigns, but not at the expense of truth and accuracy, hallmarks of Woodward Direct Public Relations and Marketing.

Without them, clients are compromised and media contacts shrivel.

How to promote a children’s book author? Organize a series of summer read-ins for young children in vest pocket and neighborhood parks around New York City and convince celebrities to donate their time to do the readings.

In the lead item of its CURRENTS page, Publisher’s Weekly wrote that bringing the world of books to those who never have been read to may “encourage them to reach for a book on their own”.

How to market high price ticket sales for an out of town non-profit’s fund raiser in a city that celebrates benefits nearly every night? Invoke China’s just fallen political “gang of four” in the publicity campaign. A featured guest at Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons’ evening in Manhattan was an escaped Chinese intellectual and former colleague of the gang.

Whether a client’s needs is in PR or Direct/Marketing, Woodward Direct offers a hands-on approach. And whether organizing a publicity/marketing campaign or writing a book, my work ethic is the same thorough:

“Well-researched…comprehensive and constructive”, critiqued Library Journal of “If your child is drinking”.

“innovative…excellent guide – straightforward and unflustered,” said Kirkus Reviews.

“Comprehensive …ideas for prevention abundantly supplied and presented with practicality” wrote Publisher’s Weekly
